The Charles on Charles

Charles Street is called home for most Loyola University students. The campus, majority of dorm buildings and Chapel all fall on this asphalt-covered street that many students walk down, across or by every day. However, few students venture just a few blocks down the road where one can stumble upon one of Baltimore’s most historical theatres, The Charles.

Newseum: The World of the Press

Located on Washington D.C.’s Pennsylvania Avenue, the Newseum stands tall in structure next to the Canadian Embassy and down the street from the Capitol. For everyday commuters merely passing by on their way to work, the Newseum daily displays updated newspapers from each of the United States in glass shelves hanging on the outside concrete walls. Those visiting the Newseum, however, experience much more than hanging daily newspapers; they explore the inner-happenings of the press, both past and present, and essentially discover how news has evolved since the founding of our country.

Little Haven in a Big City

 

Just down the street from Loyola University nestled in a serene neighborhood is a little haven called Sherwood Gardens, known by many Loyola students as the Tulip Garden. Whether you are looking for the perfect picnic spot, a classy photo op with your friends, or simply a quiet spot to relax, the Tulip Garden is the perfect place. And although my sinuses became slightly disturbed during my stay in the garden, the experiences and fun you will surely have is worth the potential sniffles.
