Guido Pumping at the Jersey Shore
By Mackenzie Degen
"I got a f---ing tanning bed in my place, that's how serious I am about being a Guido and living up to that lifestyle,” says Jersey Shore cast member DJ Pauly D about his lifestyle. MTV’s Jersey Shore is another Jersey-related reality TV show making its way to household conversation. Previous New Jersey-related reality TV shows include The Real Housewives of New Jersey and True Life: Jersey Shore.
With their outrageous looks and attitudes, many people from New Jersey feel offended and stereotyped. Italian-American associations have reacted to these shows such as UNICO National, which said that "Jersey Shore" relies on crude stereotypes and highlights cursing, bad behavior and violence in depicting renters at a New Jersey beach house. MTV has attempted to promote it in a humorous, positive way in comparison to UNICO President Andre DiMino, who calls the show "trash television."
In the mood for some laughs? Tune in to MTV on Thursday night at 10 P.M. for some fist pumping, spray tanned entertainment. Offended by the material? Experience the Jersey Shore first hand and see if it matches up to its generalization.
