Obama's State of the Union

Remember that babysitter from when you were little, who let you get away with murder but then all of a sudden tried to assert her authority? Well, President Obama reminded me of her in his first State of the Union address. He yelled at Republicans. He yelled at Democrats. He yelled at the Supreme Court. Heck, he even acknowledged some of his own failures. However, did anyone really feel bad leaving the Senate floor? Or did they have the same smirk I always had when I knew the babysitter was full of it?

Janunary 27, 2009 State of the Union Address

After president Barack Obama gave his State of the Union Address to the American people last Wednesday night it seemed that people were torn. Torn in terms of what to believe anymore. According to one source, the World Socialist Web Site, the president, "Avoided any direct and concrete presentation of the actual state of US society. Given the enormity of the economic crisis and its destructive impact on tens of millions of Americans, Obama’s recourse to evasions and platitudes was all the more extraordinary." The same feelings were expressed by a blogger on Gather.com, when they stated, "I just finished listening to President Obama's State of The Union Address.  To me it sounded like a President candidate running for election.
