Declaring Majors Across Campus
Students at Loyola demonstrate a variety of processes in which they select their majors. Junior psych major Raymond Udeogu expresses how his family was the primary influence for his major decision making stating “it was suggested to me by my mom and my sister actually because they thought I could utilize my listening skills”. However, he also states that this process wasn’t the easiest for him because of his indecisiveness.
While many students like Udeogu partake in a similar process of declaration, others like junior marketing major Pat FitsMaurice’s process of selection is a slightly less thoughtful one, evolving out of chance. FitzMaurice states, “I didn’t have any specific interests and wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, so declaring for me was more like a process of elimination. It kind of just happened”.
