A Maryland Summer Staple
By Ana Heneberry
Skylite, Egg Custard and Jamaica Mon are all flavors, unlike Cherry and Orange, that can only be associated with the sweet treats, Snowballs. Shaved ice sculpted into a wax cup sized from “kiddie” to “jumbo”, snowballs are the perfect combination of ice and flavor to beat the summer heat.
Where can you find the best in town? Snoasis snowball stand off of Padonia Rd in Timonium, MD (approx. 20 minutes from Loyola University). Snoasis offers over 50 flavors along with Snowshakes (snowballs blended with vanilla cream and the snowball flavor of choice), Snowstorms (snowballs with vanilla ice cream on the bottom and on the top) and fresh squeezed Lemonade. Vanilla ice cream can also be sold solo in a cup. Marshmallow, however, is the more popular topping offered at Snoasis. The sticky, smooth topping that inevitably ends up on your hands and mouth is the perfect sugary addition to the cold crunchy texture of the ice.
