Fashion Frenzy

On Friday, March 26th, the Black Students Association will host their annual fashion show in Reitz Arena. The fashion show has been held at Loyola University since 1998 with different themes, musical guests, and clothing designers every year.

“There’s going to be a lot of small surprises,” states co-director Marjorie Thousand when discussing the fashion show in a video interview posted on the Loyola Looks website. A Cool Stick will be performing throughout the show, however Thousand also says she and Williams are “thinking of having different on-campus groups perform during our breaks in between scenes so that the people coming to see the show get a taste of what Loyola is like creatively.”

Up to 60 students are chosen to be models in the show each year, and the clothing worn by the models is usually from the local boutiques in Baltimore. According to Loyola Looks, many female models will be wearing special occasion gowns from Ransom’s Boutique in Towson, and male models will wear attire from the store Next Level.

Thousand adds that models will be wearing clothing from A People United. This store’s clothes are all made by women in Nepal. “We have worked in a win-win strategy with workers in Nepal,” states the A People United website. The store pays the women in Nepal “better than average wages” and these wages help send “our Nepal colleagues' children to private schools in Nepal.”

Thousand also says that for the first time ever there will be a scene featuring clothing for plus-seize women. “We want to make sure that women in every shape they are get the clothing for them instead of trying to fit into a mold,” Thousand explains.

The show begins at 8 p.m., but doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office outside of Boulder Café or on Ticketmaster.
