Warm Weather Brings High Hopes for Summer Vacation Travels

With summer quickly approaching, the minds of many Loyola students have begun to wander away from the books and looming finals to thoughts of beaches and having fun in the sun. College students love to travel during the summer months and Loyola students are no exception. Some may decide to enjoy their summer with family, while others just want to have fun with their friends. Here are some hotspots for college students to consider for the summer of 2010.

Located in the tropical western Caribbean waters, about 500 miles south of Miami, FL, the Cayman Islands are the perfect place to go to experience paradise first-hand. Although it may not be the most affordable place to travel, the Cayman Islands are great for students who want to enjoy a combination of sun, shopping, spas, nightlife, and Caribbean culture. The average cost for a four-night stay at the Marriott Beach Resort is about $1,000 per person. Loyola students need to acquire a passport to travel here, but it’s a great experience if they get the chance to visit its luxurious beaches and resorts.

Students who want to stay in the country, but still experience an island getaway should consider vacationing in Key West, Florida this summer. Key West is another place for students to enjoy the sun and beaches that the island has to offer. To stay in Key West at the Coconut Beach Resort, a six person, two-bedroom suite is $400 per night. Visitors to the island can enjoy an array of activities including snorkeling, fishing, diving, visiting museums, or just exploring the unique culture and Victorian style architecture of the towns.

For those students looking to experience a totally different culture and vacation than just going to a tropical beach, they should convince their family and friends to join them in Rome, Italy. Many students at Loyola adore Rome and often find themselves studying abroad there, but wouldn’t it be so much more fun to experience Rome without worrying about schoolwork? Hotels vary in price, but it’s usually around $200 or $300 per night to stay in the great city of Rome. Students can experience the rich Italian culture and history of the city as well as enjoy the restaurants and nightlife.

No matter where Loyola students are planning on traveling this summer, they all have one thing in common: When they return to campus in the fall to hit the books, everyone will have great stories to tell about their experiences around the world during the summer of 2010.
