Chapel Choir and Liturgical Musicians Sponsor Fundraising Concert
On Friday, April 16th, 2010, the Loyola University Chapel Choir and special guest composers David Haas and Lori True performed their biennial concert. Fondly known as Haasfest, this concert featured many Chapel Choir favorites, such as, "The Heart of God," and "A Place at the Table," by Lori True, as well as world premieres of songs by David Haas and Lori True, two liturgical musicians whose compositions are widely heard every Sunday at the 6:00 Mass. This concert raised money for Music Ministry Alive!, a cause that is very special to Lori True and David Haas. Music Ministry Alive! is a six day conference and workshop for liturgical singers and instrumentalists from all around the U.S. and several foreign countries. Haas is the founder and executive director of MMA, while True and George Miller, the director of the Chapel Choir, both work on the staff as teachers. Every summer, Loyola Campus Ministry sends its music interns to MMA to learn more about faith formation and music ministry.
Loyola students found it very rewarding and enlightening to work with such established artists. “David and Lori were the nicest people. They almost made it seem like they were lucky that we sang their songs, not that we were lucky to work with them,” said Michelle Fazio, ’12. It was a great experience for the students and all involved.
About 225 people attended the benefit concert. The money raised will help provide scholarships for those who may be financially unable to attend the conference.
