Schiro Leads Women's Soccer into MAAC Championships at Ridley

Schiro, a junior forward from Lansing, Michigan, has been tearing up the college soccer scene since she arrived on campus three years ago, and last Friday her dominance was on display again in record setting fashion. She led her team to a 6-1 victory Friday, and on Sunday scored in overtime against St. Peter’s to send her team into the playoffs.
Schiro says she is elated that her team is hosting the MAAC Championships at Loyola’s Ridley Athletic Complex this year. “We cleaned out our lockers too early last year. That wasn’t fun at all to have to give up our lockers for a weekend to our own conference rivals,” she said. “I’m also excited to have it here this year because my family is coming.”
Nichole’s teammates say they take notice of her incredible work ethic and try to raise their game to match her intensity. Lauren Norcia, a junior midfielder from Cleveland, Ohio, said she is very proud of her roommate, Schiro. “She works hard at everything she does and she deserves all the success she earns. She’s a leader and a friend to all of us on the team, and we look to her as an example of hard work and dedication,” Norcia said. “We couldn’t be happier for her.”
Schiro’s success may come from hard work and dedication, but what is equally as impressive is how modest she remains despite all her accomplishments. Schiro says of her individual accolades, “Breaking the record was cool. But what made it better was that it came while helping my team win and score goals.” Schiro plans on leading her team to victory this weekend at Ridley. Tickets are free for students and five dollars for all others, so there hopes to be a big supporting crowd for Schiro and her teammates.
“I just want to keep scoring goals and help the team get to NCAA’s. It would be a good building block for my senior year."
