With the cold of winter rapidly approaching, many varsity and club sports have begun to wind down for the season. Because of this many teams have had to cease play until warmer weather or move indoors. However, one club team consistently braves the elements to continue their season. This team continues outdoor practice all winter.
The Club Ultimate Frisbee team at Loyola has been in existence for the past nine years. It is a coed club that is open to all interested individuals. They compete in 10-15 contests per year against colleges such as UMBC, Goucher, Gettysburg and more.
A recent tournament at Carrolton College in Virginia may have been the highlight of the ultimate freebee team sea
son so far. Twenty-year-old captain of the team, PJ Fregeau said the tournament was an overall success and one of the most fun times of the season. “It’s always nice to be able to take the team somewhere new. We get to meet new people and get to bond a lot as a team. Win or lose, tournaments are always so much fun,” said Fregeau.
In Virginia, the team competed against 16 other schools, many of who were the best teams in the country. “We were a bit out of our league,” said Fregeau after his team finished the tournament with a 1-5 record overall. Loyola ended up finished 14th out of 17 teams.
Despite the snow to come, the Loyola Ultimate Frisbee team will be outdoors practicing and looking to improve on their latest showing. “Like all other club sports we value winning but also sometimes just enjoy having fun,” said Fregeau.
