A Legend's Final Match

by Gregory Torres

Wrestlemania 26 has passed and many fans went home happy with seeing some great action in the pay-per-view. But everyone felt that something was missing as the show ended. This year was not just like any other Wrestlemania. We saw the conclusion of a legendary wrestler’s career in Shawn Michaels. His career ended with a career vs.streak match against the Undertaker. If he lost this match, he would be forced to retire. Anyone who was thinking at all throughout the buildup of the match knew he was going to retire; he happened to come out with a brand new DVD called “My Journey” at just the right time. Wild, Wild West Showdown

By. Miriam McKenzie

It’s April and teams around the league are either fighting for that final playoff spot or trying to claw their way up top to better position themselves to get to the finals. Out West the Lakers have been on a recent decline not looking like the Lakers of last year due to the drastic changes in their line-up where Ron Artest (traded to LA for Trevor Ariza) has yet to fit into the LA offense, Pau Gasol’s complaints of Kobe’s shot selection and the injury to Andrew Bynum has left the Lakers and nation questioning whether the champs can repeat their ascent yet alone make it to the finals once more. At this time last year the Lakers were just worrying about who they were going to play in the first round, having already clinched the #1 seed with having 58 wins in March. This year they are 55–22 and have yet to clinch the coveted #1 seed and home court throughout the playoffs.

With the current Western Conference Standings 2-8 spots having a 3.5 game difference the battle out west will be a sight to see. At mid-season the Lakers were thought to be a runaway for the #1 seed but that has not been the case: the western conference is full of teams that have the capability to upset the Lakers, especially with their play of late. Other disappointments in the west include the lackadaisical play of the Denver Nuggets, which has caused them to drop from #2 to #5 which would today have them playing the Phoenix Suns, who have been on a tear in recent weeks. If Kobe and the Lakers want to repeat this year, their fight to the finish will be of much greater difficulty than last year.
