Reactions to chapters 1-3
By Shannon McMahon
One thing I found interesting about chapter 1 was linking Berners-Lee's idea for the internet to the way wikipedia.org works. Berners-Lee invented the worldwide web in order for information to be shared throughout the world. This is true for wikipedia, as it is a common information space where anyone can view and edit the details.
In the second chapter, I found the copyright infringement discussion to be interesting. The fact that the internet makes things such as songs, television shows, movies, and books so accessible, copyright laws are constantly being broken and illegal file transfers often go under the radar. These occurences call for laws to be constantly changing in order to accommodate the constant changes in technology.
In chapter 3, I found it interesting the way that websites are designed based on the audience who visits the site and what the site has to offer. Websites are set up in a certain way in order to make the purpose of the site more convenient and recognizable for the user. Web design is also based on the type of site it is, for example clothing store web sites differ greatly from the layout of search engine sites.
